Threat status: listed as Endangered by the IUCN Red List.
Primary Threats: The main threat is commercial fishing (targeted and bycatch), specifically for their gill plates used in traditional medicine.

Saltwater Assembly is an independent diversified group based in Australia - we just call it an assembly. Our brands, our products, our rules - environment and people first in every decision about how things get made.

We think carefully about what we make and how we make it. Our product releases are built to last - not to end up in landfill or floating in the ocean. Where we can, we go digital first - a  template, app, or a downloadable game leaves a fraction of the footprint of anything physical.

When we do create physical products, we manufacture in small batches or on demand - no warehouses full of stuff that might never find a home. Everything we make is designed to be passed on, collected, or loved for years. As we grow, we're committed to sourcing recycled and sustainable materials and leaving plastic out of it entirely.

We're still learning - and paying close attention.

Importantly, every sale gives us the opportunity to give something back to the organisations protecting the ocean and the creatures in it.
